Agent - Awake in their world (7")

After a demo that made many heads turn within the Long Island melodic hardcore scene and an EP 'I wouldn't trade that for anything' released in 2006 on Iron Pier (Capital, Thieves And Assassins), Agent comes back at last with a new 7", 'Awake in their world'.
Recorded, as the EP, with Phil Douglas (ex-Latterman), the five New Yorkers serve us four songs in the same vein as their precedent compositions, an effective and intelligent punk-rock.
But the quintet doesn't sound like an umpteenth Lifetime plagiary. Admittedly, the comparison is obvious on a song like 'Current’, but when listening carefully we realise that Agent has something different. On ‘Tough lake, Mr. Muenster’, the singing of Keith reminds us the good times of Hot Water Music punk-rock while certain guitar parts tend to the more indie emo of Braid. Imagine Fairweather but a little bit scruffier. The point is also in the lyrics, depicting in an introspective way the passage to adulthood and what it implies.
A 7" worthy of the genre enthusiasts's listening, proof of this being their signing on Run For Cover Records, a label that has released records from bands like Crime In Stereo, This Is Hell, Death Is Not Glamorous or This Time Next Year.

3.5/5
